Happy Independence Day

July 4, 2020

The July 4th observance of Independence day, in celebration of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, holds a special place in the heart of many American Freemasons.

Not only because several men who signed the Declaration of Independence were Masons, but more importantly, because of the principals of Freemasonry that helped lay the foundation of what eventually became the United States of America. Those same principals and ideals are to this day a vital part of Masonry in the United States and across the globe.

As penned in the Declaration of Independence “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal” many Masons will easily recognize from the lessons inculcated in our lodges, that it is in this same spirit that we “meet upon the level.”

As we take time to celebrate the holiday with family and friends this year, let us pause a moment to remember those men and brethren who risked everything for that which we hold dear.

And to our brethren wheresoever dispersed, may the ideals of Justice, Freedom and Equality continue to burn ever so brightly in your hearts, among your families, lodges, and communities in the years ahead.
